Eizo Oceania are the importer and distributor here in Australia. I was fortunate to be able to see and briefly test a demonstration unit earlier this year at the AIPP (Australian Institute of Professional Photography) Nikon Event in Perth, Western Australia and was left seriously impressed in a short space of time. I admit to being extremely eager to unbox and set up the display when I picked it up from Australian Reseller Kayell Australia. First announced early this year (2015) the CG318-4K has only recently begun to ship both here in Australia and in the US. I had been waiting for the release of this monitor for more than six months now. With a native resolution of 4096 x 2160 pixels the CG318-4K is a true 4K display and is capable of accurately displaying an impressive 99% of the Adobe RGB colour space. This new 31.1” 79cm Hardware Calibration wide gamut monitor represents the current bleeding edge of high end digital monitors for creative professionals.
Related to that is DICOM Part 14, which was published by the National Electrical Manufacturers Association (NEMA) and the American College of Radiology (ACR).ĭICOM Part 14 provides strict guidelines for how grayscale display function calibration and quality assurance tests should be performed on displays used for medical imaging.Over the last few weeks I have been working with Eizo’s new wide gamut 4K Colour Edge Monitor, the CG318-4K. It is a medical standard that describes how medical imaging information should be exchanged and managed. The most interesting thing for me is compliance with the DICOM Part 14 standard.ĭICOM stands for Digital Imaging and Communication in Medicine. I am sure that this monitor simply has a "selected" matrix, which is also installed on a SX3031W and slightly different software. However, the monitor must have a 12bit LUT table and a strange input signal mode I think this is a limitation of the DVI-D dual-link interface. It has a comfortable stable stand and it has a built-in USB hub.

The monitor supports special software and a sensor for calibration of tones/chromaticity. Color space: 97% AdobeRGB(native), sRGB(manual calibration).Panel: TFT Color LCD Panel (8bit PVA, Samsung).
There were 2 revisions of this display, I have the second revision which was made in 2009. It is a medical monitor designed for radiology and MRI and match the DICOM part 14 spec. Later I bought ($160) a second EIZO FlexScan (RadiForce) MX300W monitor on the same platform with the same problem. The cost of the monitor including shipping was $180 + $100 for components. Thus, I accidentally bought a faulty EIZO FlexScan SX3031W in Japan and repaired it. I figured out that I need to look for among professional displays, broadcast displays and medical displays.
I wanted a higher resolution and 30-32" size. The price of a decent professional display can be quite high. This problem is solved in professional displays (sometimes not completely) with a variety of add-ons. Taking into account low displays contrast 1000:1 for IPS and 3000:1 for VA, these backlight spots are added on the image itself. This is how black color looks like on a modern consumer display.
